Some of the fake products seized included : gas cylinders, electrical cables, tyres , bulbs and iron rods while a block industry was also sealed for allegedly producing blocks that failed to meet up the standard requirements.
The state coordinator of the organization, who led the enforcement team on a routine inspection to some markets in Akure, Mr Paul Oke, said the organisation clamped down on the alleged sellers of the fake products following the information of influx of substandard and fake products in the markets.
He explained that the bogus products were threat to the growing economy and the people were innocently buying them, alleging that the people dealing in substandard and fake commodities were destroying the country’s economy.
On what action to take on the seized products, Oke said the matter would be reported at the SON National Headquarters for directive on appropriate evacuation and destruction.
He also declared that owners of the seized products would be prosecuted according to the laws.
