Nigeria reaches agreement with former Niger Delta militants

Niger Delta militants have returned to become a major problem in the region 

The government of President Muhammadu Buhari has announced the agreement with Niger Delta militants. Paul Boroh, the presidential adviser on Niger-Delta matters and coordinator of the amnesty programme, said that government and former militants agreed to end the pipeline vandalism. 


The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Boroh told this reporters on May 28, Saturday, adding that the pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta region was reducing the economic fortune of Nigeria and increasing sufferings of Nigerians. ‎ 

He advised the agitators to talk with the relevant authorities over their challenges and stop destruction of oil facilities.‎ Buhari’s adviser gave the assurance that plans were in the line to create welfare and a housing scheme in addition to the existing programme and projects.‎ He underlined the need to find enduring solutions to the ongoing crisid in the region. “Personally it makes me feel bad that we don’t know how to solve our problem,” Mr.Boroh said. 

“To you my comrades, it is our responsibility to make sure that insecurity in our environment is well sorted out. Please let us do everything we can to make sure that doesn’t occur again.”‎ “We have all resolved that we will put our heads and hands and all in all together to prevent the re-occurrence of this type of thing.”‎ “Collectively we (Federal Government and ex-militants) have agreed to work as a team to 2prevent re-occurrence. 

“We feel bad that it is happening, it is affecting our economy and it is affecting development and we are very concern about it.” 

Some of the ‘militants’ who were in attendance at the meeting affirmed to what Boroh said and promised to support the government to bring lasting peace to the region. Meanwhile, Niger Delta Avengers issued a new threat, saying that ‘something big is about to happen’.

According to them, this will shock the whole world.
