A 25-year-old man has been charged with the murder and rape of a 72-year-old church-going pensioner who was found dead in her quiet village home.
Jane Hings’s body was found by a carer at her bungalow on a cul-de-sac in Fleckney, Leicestershire, on Sunday morning.
Tributes have been paid following her death with neighbours and friends describing Jane as a “kind and thoughtful person” who lived alone and didn’t have any family.
MetroUk understands that she died between Saturday night and Sunday morning following a “disturbance” at the property.
Craig Keogh is accused of murder, two counts of rape and one of burglary after being charged on Friday evening following the death of Jane Hings.
Police said they were also investigating whether her killer stole her car after it crashed into a number of cars nearby on Saturday night.
Keogh, of no fixed address, has appeared at Leicester Magistrates’ Court.
Flanked by a single female dock officer and wearing grey tracksuit bottoms, he was heard telling someone in the public gallery “Tell mum I love her, innit yeah”, as he was taken down.
Keogh, of Leicester, was remanded in custody to appear at Leicester Crown Court on Tuesday.
A woman said: “The woman was called Jane and she had lived in the bungalow for about ten years.
“She was a private person and used to get taken out in her car by a church group.”
