Life Skills You Should Teach Your Children

Children are a heritage and the future of every family and thus, the world. How we raise them is important, and every generation is a reflection of their parents. The values and skills needed to survive in life are not instinctual, you can teach your child to be a healthy, upstanding citizen and a good person. 

TEACH THEM TO COOK

Cooking is not a chore to be left for any gender. Teach your boys and your girls to be self-sufficient in the kitchen. It will make them better managers when they grow up, and they won’t have to depend on anyone for sustenance. 

ETIQUETTE IS NOT OLD FASHIONED

It is not old-fashioned to greet, to be courteous and respectful. Respect will never go out of fashion. There’s is a new wave of irreverent young people who don’t care about politeness or deference to age. It is rude and distasteful, and you should not let your child be like that. 

Teach him to be respectful of older people and speak to them with politeness even when they are wrong. It creates a good impression and attracts favor. 

GIVE THEM A WORK ETHIC

Not letting your child do chores or take responsibility doesn’t do him any favors, except make him into an entitled individual. Let them share in the responsibility of running the home, giving them tasks according to their age and ability. 

Chores and work create a work ethic in the child and lets him know that he is expected to deliver not just in the home, but when he is out of it too. Make him do his assignments from school and take part in community service, and an impressed employer will thank you someday for his discipline. 

SAVING HABIT

Savings build a cushion for when things go wrong. Teach them to keep aside their pennies and kobos and you will create a valuable habit in them for when they’re older.
