Some Residents and shop owners at Adere along Ilawe road on Wednesday were sacked by flood as a result of the heavy downpour that lasted about four hours in Ado-Ekiti.
The heavy rain which began around 2pm lasted for nearly five hours. The flood took over the road that leads to the Polytechnic roundabout which left motorists plying the road stranded.

The flood which took over a house very close to a river destroyed several property, rendering many homeless as three churches inside the compound were turned into ‘pool of water.’

One of the residents, Pastor Abioye Emmanuel, explained that this is the first time they will be experiencing such occurrence.

Pastor Emmanuel said: “the water coming from NTA, Aba-Iyamedi, Egbewa and Falegan all met here at this particular point. This channel is too narrow for the volume of water flowing through this river. The only solution is for government to expand the channel that passes through this bridge for easy flow of water.

Some of the properties destroyed by the flood include freezer, generators, some computers, electronics, clothes and some other items.

A younger brother to one of the affected church’s pastor; Christ and Grace Deliverance Ministry, Ayodele Adekola, lamented that the flood couldn’t allow them to observe night vigil as water took over the whole place.

” We call on government to please, and as a matter of urgency intervene in the situation. We have planned for a night vigil yesterday, but unfortunately the flood did not allow us. As you can see, everywhere is full of water, we have been trying to evacuate the water since morning.

“Several motorists were stranded yesterday evening as a result of the flood that took over the road. The commissioner for environment and one other commissioner had visited here to see the level of damage done by the flood. We can’t even quantify the properties that got destroyed by the flood.

I’m standing now, I only have these cloth on me. We had to vacate this house to sleep at a friend’s house. The flood pulled down the fence of our house. We want government to do something about it. The government is busy constructing fly-over while residents are being swept away by flood,” One of the residents lamented.
