Architects organize WAAF (West Africa Architecture Festival) Port Harcourt Edition

As part of the event to celebrate excellence in architecture in Nigeria and in the diaspora, and with quest for qualitative and sustainable design for Nigerians, the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA), is set for its annual West African Architecture Festival (WAAF 2.0) which is to be held in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State.


According to the President of Nigerian Institute of Architects, Tonye Oliver Braide,  this year’s West Africa Architecture Festival with the theme: “Celebrating diaspora excellence: The Leap into the new civilisation”,  is aimed to bring all architects in Nigeria and in the diaspora together to celebrate excellence in architecture.

“The epic annual festival which is the second edition will be held in the Obi Wali International Conference Centre, Port-Harcourt, Rivers State between 24th and 27th October, 2017,” he said.

Unveiling the programme,  WAAF 2017, the NIA president said what West Africa Architecture is trying to achieve is to further create a point of convergence among architects in Nigeria, those in the diaspora especially in the West African region, and Nigeria, especially River State.

He noted, “Port-Harcourt, as a suitable point of investment that will further grow the city as technology,  is a gift of God,” he said, adding that over 200,000 to 250,000 visitors, including over 100 exhibitors and 34 participating countries are expected to celebrate the event.

Similarly, the chairman, NIA, Rivers State chapter, Mr Andrew Egbuonu, stated that the West African Architecture Festival was an event by the  NIA, including the allied professionals and general public.

The event was targeted to educate and create lifestyle improvement and network with the architects, bringing them together, especially the big names in architecture domain from West African and beyond.

“The West African Architecture Festival will be adding to its 2017 edition range of activities such as food fiesta, fashion fair, exhibition, music, seminar from West African region”, he said.
